The UK’s steel distributors and the National Association of Steel Service Centres (NASS) of the UK called on the government to extend the safeguard measures after the measures expire this June. The request was also made by British steel producers in the previous week.

According to the NASS, the UK's safeguards are critical to the UK steel market amid protectionism measures in countries worldwide. The revocation of the current safeguard measures may lead to trade diversions and uncontrolled surges in imports to the UK, which will severely impact the domestic market prices.

The UK government was expected to make decisions on whether to maintain this safeguard measure by June, but the specific date hasn’t been confirmed.
