US’ steel coils imports fall in May

According to the final Census Bureau data from the US Department of Commerce (USDOC), the US imported around 101,400 tons of steel coils in May, decreasing by 3.2% compared to the previous month while rising by 80.6% from the same month a year ago.

Among them, the imports from Canada accounted for the largest proportion, totaling roughly 61,300 tons, a month-on-month decrease of 10.5% and a year-on-year hike of 112.7%. Other import sources included South Korea (around 12,000 tons), Turkey (around 11,100 tons), the Netherlands (around 5,300 tons), and Sweden (around 4,600 tons).

During the period, the import value was roughly US$107 million, up by 4.1% month on month and 222.1% year on year.
