Recently, the Aluminum Association of the US stated that common alloy aluminum sheet products produced in China are being further processed in South Korea and then exported to the US. The association also asked the US Department of Commerce (USDOC) to initiate a circumvention investigation.

The US imposes anti-dumping duties and countervailing duties on China's common alloy aluminum sheets. The association believed that China's Henan Mingtai Aluminium Industry Co., Ltd. exports the subject goods to the US through its South Korean subsidiary Gwangyang Aluminum Industries Co., Ltd. to evade tariffs.

The USDOC will decide within 45 days whether to launch the process of circumvention investigation. Once the investigation is launched, a preliminary decision is expected in mid-September.

The aluminum sheets involved are 1000 series, 3000 series, and 5000 series alloys with a thickness of 0.2~6.3mm and are mainly used as building materials.
