India’s mining giant Vedanta reported that its alumina production at its Lanjigarh alumina refinery dropped by 7% quarter on quarter and by 18% year on year to 411,000 tons in the fourth quarter of the fiscal year 2023 (January to March 2023) due to scheduled calciner shutdown.

During the same period, the company’s aluminum production was 574,000 tons, compared to 566,000 tons in the previous quarter and 572,000 tons in the same period a year ago.

In the fiscal year 2023, Vedanta’s aluminum output hit a new high at 2.29 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 1%, driven by higher production from the Jharsuguda smelter. However, alumina production at the Lanjigarh refinery slid by 9% year on year on account of planned calciner shutdown and maintenance.
