When the sustainability of a company matches its innovation, it makes the aluminium packaging lead the way. Vinca, the award-winning 100 per cent Italian canned wines, have debuted its Province-style pale rosé in an aluminium bottle, which is available across the north of England across multiple supermarkets for the end users.
This debut of this elegant rosé aligns with the firm's active red and white wines in 750ml aluminium bottles. The niche to incorporate the Italian canned wines in aluminium is simple: to gain a low-carbon alternative, removing the use of traditional glass.
The firm's use of 100 per cent post-consumer recycled (PCR) aluminium bottles indicates sustainability and lightweight, whereas the traditional glass offered only 60 per cent. Moreover, with the aluminium bottles, the firm can assure its audience with faster-chilling wine, along with a wine-grade lining inside, ensuring the freshness of the content inside.
The inclusion of aluminium ensures the company is sustainable because the production of the bottles requires 4x less energy than it does for glass. Each aluminium wine bottle weighs around 68g when empty, in comparison to 450g for a glass bottle. Sleekness of the bottle requires smaller cartons for logistics and transportation, enabling nearly 40 per cent of the bottles to fit into one container, reducing further carbon emissions.
Some of the other positive environmental impacts attributed by the company to the shift from glass to aluminium include a 5x reduction of carbon-intensive production compared to glass, where the raw output with aluminium is 0.129 kgCO2e, whereas glass is 1.03 kgCO2e. Similarly, Vinca has successfully slashed down its carbon emissions by almost 50 per cent as well as lowered its total carbon footprint by 47 per cent, making it highly recyclable.
