WBMS: Global primary aluminum market has oversupply of nearly 1.1 million tons in Jan-Apr 2020

According to a report released by the World Bureau of Metal Statistics (WBMS), the global primary aluminum market faced an oversupply of 1.098 million tons from January to April of this year, compared to an oversupply of 749,000 tons in 2019.

In the first four months of this year, the global primary aluminum demand was 20.67 million tons, increasing by nearly 1% or 200,000 tons from the same period in 2019.

The figure of demand was calculated based on apparent benchmarks, and the impact of the national blockade to curb the novel coronavirus epidemic might not fully show on the statistics.

During the same period, the global primary aluminum production had a year-on-year increase of 4.6%.
