World Steel Association Declared World Champions of SteelChallenge-15

The World Steel Association (worldsteel) has announced winners of the 15th steelChallenge contest, which took place online on 12th April, 2021 following social distancing guidelines of health authorities around the world, on account of Covid-19 pandemic spread.

Darley da Silva Lima from Universidade Federal do Ceará in Brazil was declared winner in the Student category, whereas the winner of the Industry category was Xiaowei Shi from HBIS Group in China.

Commenting on the achievement, Xiaowei Shi noted that the challenge was really hard and that he was delighted to be the industry World Champion. It is a great honour to participate in steelChallenge, which is regarded as the highest level and most authoritative competition in the steel industry. 

Darley da Silva Lima said that he is very happy to be the student World Champion. The competition provided an incredible opportunity to improve his knowledge about steelmaking and meet people around the world. It would be helpful for working in the steel industry, added Darley.

Meantime, Scott Chubbs, Director steeluniversity of worldsteel congratulated the World Champions and all of the finalists for a tremendous competition. The competition has played a key role in inspiring and motivating students and steel industry people about the value of working in the steel industry, Chubbs added.
