According to the American Iron and Steel Institute (AISI), the US steel production totaled around 1.84 million tons during the week ending June 26, sliding by 0.2% compared to the previous week, while the output jumped by 44.3% from the period last year.

The steel capacity utilization during the week reached 82.7%, a significant improvement from just 56.8% in the same week of last year. Even though there was a steady rise in capacity utilization, the US steel market remained tight. Therefore, US steel consumers are now looking for imports from somewhere other than Europe because Europe is almost as tight as the US.
