Aluminium Bahrain B.S.C. (Alba), the world’s largest aluminium smelter ex-China with a production of more than 1.548 million tonnes per annum, has reportedly achieved a 4-star audit rating for health and safety practices at its smelter.

Alba has emerged as the first smelter in the Gulf countries to have attained this stupendous rating, accredited by the British Safety Council (BSC). The latter conducted the Five Star Occupational Health and Safety Audit to acknowledge companies prioritising workers’ health, safety, and wellbeing.

The BSC Five Star Occupational Health and Safety Audit is a world-class process to evaluate occupational health and safety against the latest legislation, recognised standards, and best practices.

Alba has achieved this rating after going through a 12-day comprehensive and robust evaluation of its occupational health and safety management systems in September 2023. Alba has been measured against a number of key best practice indicators, including leadership, stakeholder engagement, risk management, organisational health, safety culture, and continual improvement.

Commenting on this occasion, Alba’s Chief Executive Officer Ali Al Baqali stated: “We are humbled to be the first aluminium smelter in the GCC to have reached the 4 star level. This recognition is a reflection of our Safety culture where every person takes responsibility for their actions and looks out for one another. I take the opportunity to thank each and every employee as well as contractor’s personnel for upholding the best safety protocols at all times.”
