Alcoa Corp., a leading aluminum producer in the US, produced 523,000 tons of aluminum in the second quarter of this year, rising by 1% compared to the previous quarter. Alumina production totaled 2.6 million tons, falling by 7.1% quarter on quarter. The decrease was mainly due to lower production at the Alumar aluminum smelter in Brazil caused by unplanned maintenance.

In terms of shipment, the aluminum shipment in the second quarter totaled 623,000 tons, a quarter-on-quarter fall of 3.8%.

For the outlook, Alcoa maintained its 2023 aluminum shipment forecast at 2.5-2.6 million tons and alumina shipment at 12.7-12.9 million tons.

Alcoa’s CEO Roy Harvey said that the company’s financial result was expected to improve in the third quarter because the costs for raw materials and production will decrease in both aluminum and alumina segments.
