Alcoa Corp., a leading aluminum producer in the US, will have a meeting with representatives of Spanish national and regional authorities this week to discuss financial difficulties at its San Ciprián complex, which consists of an alumina refinery and an aluminum smelter.

The San Ciprián complex has been facing operational challenges in recent years and its current economic situation continues to deteriorate.

William Oplinger, President and Chief Executive Officer of Alcoa, said that the company has been working hard to comply with all commitments contained in the Viability Agreement, but the current situation remains challenging. Therefore, it decided to continue the dialogue with government and worker representatives to find long-term solutions.
