ArcelorMittal Bremen, a division of the global steel giant ArcelorMittal, has received the primary permit for a significant environmental modernization from the Bremen Senate for Environment, Climate, and Science. Over the coming years, ArcelorMittal plans to convert its Bremen steel plant from blast furnace operations to an integrated electric steel facility. This transformation will require multiple permits.

This approval is a milestone towards climate-neutral steel production and crucial for the company’s 2038 climate-neutral goal. The permit process addressed emissions, soil and water protection, health, and workplace safety, with public input considered. No insurmountable obstacles were identified. The Bremen site produces over 3.6 million tons of crude steel annually and 2 million tons of coke at its Bottrop site.
