The roadmap to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2050 will play a key role in Australia's strategy to maintain and enhance its global leadership in aluminum raw material production and primary aluminum output. The roadmap aims to reduce emissions from energy-intensive refining and smelting processes as most emissions are from Australia’s six alumina refineries and four aluminum smelters.

Australia is the largest alumina exporter and bauxite producer in the world, and the sixth-largest aluminum producer in the world. According to the assessment, by 2023-24, Australia's bauxite production will grow to 109 million tons, and the production of alumina and aluminum will keep stable at around 21 million tons and 1.6 million tons, respectively.
