Arsjad Rasjid, the Chairman of the Indonesian Chamber of Commerce and Industry, expressed his support for President Joko Widodo’s decision to impose a ban on Indonesia’s bauxite exports from June next year, saying that the policy is in line with Law No. 3 of 2020 on mineral and coal mining and it will help raise the added value of the domestic natural resources.

He believed that the policy will encourage downstream industries to process bauxite into aluminum ingots, further having an impact on the national economy. The demand was expected to be fully met by Indonesia's domestic aluminum industry in the next few years. The current bauxite reserves in Indonesia can meet aluminum demand for the next decades.
