Brazilian scrap exports & imports decline in May

According to the Brazilian Ministry of Economy, Brazil exported approximately 52,000 tons of scrap in May, falling by 30% from the same period a year ago and 2.9% from the previous month. Among them, Brazil exported about 17,000 tons through the Port of Santos. The major destination was Bangladesh with around 33,000 tons.

Besides, Brazil imported roughly 760 tons of scrap in May, rising by 35.3% year on year while decreasing by 3.8% month on month. Among them, the major supplier was Bolivia with around 340 tons, mainly imported through the port of Corumba.

In the first five months of 2020, Brazil exported around 316,000 tons and imported 4,900 tons of scrap, soaring by 63.3% while dropping by 89.4% year on year, respectively.
