According to statistics from Brazil’s Ministry of the Economy, Brazil exported around 864,500 tons of alumina in December 2020, growing by 58.6% compared to the same month a year ago.

The increase in Brazil’s alumina exports was mainly due to Alunorte alumina refinery’s resumption of its annual capacity utilization rate.

Alunorte and Alumar, the two main alumina refineries in Brazil, accounted for 99.8% of total exports.
