Brazil’s crude steel output decreases in May

According to data from Instituto Aço Brasil (Brazil Steel Institute), Brazil’s crude steel production in May was around 2.97 million tons, decreasing by 4.9% year on year.

Meanwhile, the output of finished steel totaled about 2 million tons, decreasing by 17.5% compared to the same month of last year. The flat steel production slid by 22.6% year on year to about 1.12 million tons. The production of long products was around 887,000 tons, decreasing by 10% year on year.

The Steel Industry Confidence Index (ICIA) in June decreased by 1.3 points to 45.5 points compared to the previous month.
