According to statistics released by the National Bureau of Statistics of China (NBS), China’s aluminum production amounted to 38.5 million tons in 2021, a year-on-year increase of 4.8%. The figure hit a record high in spite of the crisis of energy shortages.

In December 2021, China's primary aluminum production was 3.11 million tons, up by 0.32% compared to the previous month while sliding by 4% from the same month a year ago.

Aluminum production is highly energy-intensive. Due to China's dual control of energy consumption policy in 2021, production in some regions has been reduced.
