According to a report from Antaike, a Chinese state-owned research firm, China's primary aluminum output was expected to grow by 4.3% year on year to 38.9 million tons in 2021, slightly lower than the 40 million tons expected at the beginning of this year.

In terms of alumina, the output was expected to increase to 75.2 million tons, mainly driven by the new production capacity. As of the end of this month, China's production capacity of alumina increased by 1.7 million tons to 90.35 million tons per year.

With the increase in coal supply, the impact of power restrictions on China’s primary aluminum producers will be reduced in 2022. Besides, the economic growth and rising aluminum prices will also boost primary aluminum production, but the increase will be limited.

Mainly due to production cuts in China, LME aluminum price has hiked by 43% so far this year.
