The Colombian people have started a strike since April 28, 2021, to protest the tax reform by the government of Iván Duque to deal with the COVID-19 epidemic. However, due to the strike, the domestic steel industry is suffering heavy losses, according to Comité Colombiano de Productores de Acero (CCPA), the local steel producers' association.

CCPA said that due to the strike, Colombia’s steel industry has lost around US$248 million. The strike not only impacted 472,138 construction workers directly across the country but also put nearly 45,000 direct and indirect jobs at risk.
