The African crude steel production recorded substantial decline during the month of June this year, fuelled by production declines in major producing countries including Egypt, Libya and South Africa. The regional output during the initial six months of the current year too was down considerably.

The monthly crude steel production data published by the World Steel Association (worldsteel) indicates that African production totalled 875,000 tonnes, falling significantly by 21.3% from the previous year. The region had reported a total production of 1.112 Mt in June 2019.
