Due to the high energy costs, Damco Aluminum Delfzijl Coöperatie U.A. (ALDEL), the only aluminum producer based in Delfzijl, the Netherlands, filed for bankruptcy with the court last Thursday.

This aluminum smelter stopped production previously because of high energy prices and a lack of government support, and the processing works were also stopped in September.

ALDEL is a primary aluminum producer in the Netherlands. It has an annual production capacity of 110,000 tons of primary aluminum and 50,000 tons of recycled aluminum. The plant’s aluminum products are applied in the automotive industry.
