It was reported that the Egyptian government planned to restart the project of modernization and upgrade for Egyptalum, the largest aluminum producer in Egypt.

Actually, the project was proposed at the end of 2019, planning to expand its production capacity to 570,000 tons from the designed production capacity of 320,000 tons. However, the project has not been started due to the novel coronavirus epidemic.

The project will be carried out in two phases. One is to replace old production lines, and the other is to add a new production line.

Hisham Tawfik, the Minister of Public Business Sector, said that the feasibility study was expected to be completed in mid-2021 by US-based Bechtel.
