According to the European Aluminium Foil Association (EAFA), in the first quarter of this year, the European demand for aluminum foil rolls was up by 5%, exports plummeted by 27%, while the total production increased by 0.2% to 244,700 tons, all year on year. The strong demand offset the continued decrease in exports.

The packaging industry contributed a lot to the growth in demand for thin gauges, mainly used in flexible packaging and other kitchen packaging, driven by new inventory trends in the retail industry. The demand for thin gauges rose by 9% in the first quarter, up from the growth of 6% in the previous quarter and the hike of 3% last year.
