Speira GmbH, a global aluminum rolling and recycling company in Germany, is considering cutting the production at its German aluminum smelter to 50% of the total capacity in response to soaring energy costs.

Surging energy costs are squeezing power-intensive industries in Europe. Speira's production reduction will exacerbate the impact of the energy crisis brought to the European metals industry. Speira said it will make a decision on whether to cut production in September.

The metals industry is one of the big consumers of electricity and natural gas in Europe. The production capacity of aluminum and zinc in this region has dropped by around 50% over the past year due to the energy crisis.
