Ghana is poised to become a hub in global aluminum production. The state-owned Ghana Integrated Aluminium Development Corporation (GIADEC) has secured six mining leases, paving the way to exploit Ghana's estimated 920 million tons of bauxite.

GIADEC CEO Reindorf Twumasi Ankrah said this is an industrial transformation agenda. The development aligns with the government’s "Reset Agenda" focusing on industrialization and sustainable resource use.

GIADEC has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Emirates Global Aluminium (EGA) for new bauxite mines, rail infrastructure, and port expansion, and is in talks with US-based Madison Alumina for an alumina refinery and aluminum smelter incorporating green innovations in Ghana. This push is expected to create over 20,000 jobs.

Besides, the company is working to modernize The Volta Aluminium Company Limited (VALCO), increasing its capacity by five times to 300,000 tons yearly. Flexible partnership models are offered to attract investors.

To attract more investment, GIADEC is offering three partnership models, including Credit-Resource Swap for infrastructure or financing in exchange for future bauxite or alumina supply, Long-Term Off-Take Agreements for guaranteed supply, and Joint Venture Operations for equity participation across the aluminum value chain.
