Global primary aluminum market has supply shortage of 822,000 tons in Jan-Sep

According to a report released by the World Bureau of Metal Statistics (WBMS), the global primary aluminum market has a supply shortage of 822,000 tons in the first nine months of this year, and the shortage in the whole year of 2021 was 1.6 million tons.

In the January-September period, the global demand for primary aluminum was roughly 51.8 million tons, down by 30,000 tons from the same period in 2021.

During the period, global primary aluminum production slid by 332,000 tons compared to the same period a year ago. In September alone, the global primary aluminum production totaled 5.73 million tons, and the demand was 5.83 million tons.
