Global primary aluminum market has supply shortage of 916,000 tons in Jan-Jul

According to a report released by the World Bureau of Metal Statistics (WBMS), the global primary aluminum market has a supply shortage of 916,000 tons in the first seven months of this year, and the shortage in the whole year of 2021 was 1.558 million tons.

In the January-July period, the global demand for primary aluminum was around 40.2 million tons, down by 215,000 tons from the same period in 2021.

During the period, the global primary aluminum production slid by 0.7% compared to the same period a year ago.

In July alone, the global primary aluminum production was down by 0.7% year on year to 5.57 million tons, and the demand was roughly 5.84 million tons.
