Global stainless steel melt shop production grows in 2021 y-o-y

According to statistics from the International Stainless Steel Forum (ISSF), global stainless steel melt shop production amounted to 56.3 million tons in 2021, rising by 10.6% compared to the previous year. The output from all regions, with a record excluding China and South Korea, had a year-on-year increase of 21.2% to 7.8 million tons, occupying 13.8% of the total.

The production from China accounted for 54.4% of the total output in the world, totaling 30.6 million tons, a year-on-year hike of 1.6%. The production in Europe was up by 13.6% year on year to 7.2 million tons, and that in the US hiked by 10.4% year on year to 2.4 million tons.

The production in other regions, including Brazil, Russia, South Africa, South Korea, and Indonesia, also had a year-on-year growth of 42%, amounting to 8.3 million tons.
