Hydro is investing US$20 million in Verdox, a US-based carbon capture company, to commercialize an all-electric carbon removal technology, which is only applicable to capture emissions from aluminum production but also those from the air.

Hydro and Verdox started their cooperation in early 2021. The technology has passed the test. The next step for the cooperation includes testing and piloting the technology at Hydro's aluminum smelter, aiming to reach an industrial scale by 2030.
