The HAL5000 control system was developed by Hydro Årdal's technology department, and it will control aluminum production more efficiently. With the upgraded electrolysis cells, production will be raised, and electricity consumption and CO2 emissions will be reduced. Around NOK 6 million could be saved every year.

The control system will be installed in one of two electrolysis lines in Årdal, and it will be operational this 2022. The first cells will be available with the new control system in 2023.
