Hydro has decided to invest NOK 750 million to strengthen its Sunndal aluminum smelter’s position as the largest aluminum plant and low-carbon aluminum supplier in Europe in the coming decades.

This investment will be used to replace and upgrade the existing high voltage and rectifier system, new service cranes, and electrification of selected operating vehicles, which will ensure that this position maintains for the next decades.

The project was scheduled to commence in June 2022 and was expected to be completed partly in the spring of 2024 and the summer of 2025.

The investment is waiting for a final decision, which was expected to be made in the first half of 2022.
