In order to protect the domestic industry, India has levied anti-dumping duty on flat-rolled steel products plated or coated with an alloy of aluminum and zinc from China, Vietnam, and South Korea.

The government’s notification date was on June 23, Tuesday. Based on the statement, the imposed duty will be ranging from US$13.07-US$173.10/ton for 5 years.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi said the country needed to be self-reliant, as well as to boost the sluggish economy, create more jobs by protecting the domestic industry, and push local manufacturing.

The decision on the imposition of duties was also seen as the retaliation by the Indian government after 20 soldiers died at the Himalayan border due to conflict with the Chinese military. Both sides of military officials agreed to disengage on the disputed border on Tuesday.
