India’s FIMI seeking cancelation of export tariffs on bauxite

India’s Federation of Indian Mineral Industries (FIMI) is seeking the cancelation of the 15% export tariffs on bauxite in its pre-budget proposals to the finance ministry, saying that it will optimally utilize low-grade mineral resources.

FIMI proposed this thought on the grounds that India’s domestic alumina and aluminum producers have their own captive mines or have their needs met by mines located in the eastern and central regions of India, which contain plant-grade bauxite.

Besides, the low-grade bauxite deposits on the west coast of India are technically not suitable and lack of economic viability for Indian refiners or smelters.
