The IISIA had requested the Indonesian government to implement anti-dumping (AD) measures against Chinese steel imports, including hot-rolled coil, cold-rolled coil/sheet, wire rod, bar, profile, and coated steel, but the government had not yet agreed.

Silmy Karim, Chairman of the Indonesia Iron and Steel Industry Association (IISIA), stated that Chinese steel imports flooded into the Indonesian market. As a result, steel had become Indonesia's second-largest imported commodity, and most of them were imported from China.

Furthermore, according to statistics, Indonesia's steel output in the first half of 2021 was only 6.6 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 20%. It was predicted that the volume of imported steel in Indonesia would continue to expand. Therefore, the IISIA urged the government to protect the Indonesian steel industry as soon as possible.
