Indonesia’s Adaro Minerals plans to start operations of new aluminum smelter in Q2 2025

PT Adaro Minerals Indonesia Tbk (ADMR), a leading mining company in Indonesia, was expected to put its planned aluminum smelter into operation in the second quarter of 2025. The new smelter, located in Green Industrial Park in North Kalimantan province, was scheduled to use renewable energy. The total investment of this project was US$2 billion.

Totok Azhariyanto, the Director at ADMR, said that the company is currently seeking to cooperate with local enterprises to meet 50% of alumina needs from them, and the remainder will still rely on imports.

Scheduled a launch of operations in the second quarter of 2025, the new aluminum smelter will have a production capacity of 500,000 tons in the first phase.
