According to Japan Aluminium Association (JAA), due to the weak demand caused by the downturn in global manufacturing during the COVID-19 epidemic, Japan's aluminum production dropped in 2020.

Statistics showed that Japan’s output of aluminum extrusion and rolled products had a year-on-year decrease to 1.7 million tons in 2020.

Due to sluggish demand from the beverage can industry, the postponement and cancellations of construction projects, and the decrease in automobile production, Japan’s production of aluminum plates, extrusions, and rolled products all reduced on a year-on-year basis in 2020.

Moreover, Japan’s aluminum import volume also slid by 17% year on year to 12 million tons during the reporting period.
