A new fire broke out last Thursday (November 20) at the Novelis aluminum plant in Oswego, New York, a major supplier for Ford’s F-150 truck line. This incident is the latest in a series of blazes, including a shutdown in September that resulted in Ford facing profit losses of up to US$2 billion.
Although the fire was quickly controlled and all personnel were safely evacuated without injury, the incident again raises questions about the facility's planned restart.
Novelis had accelerated its timeline to resume full operations by the end of December. The facility continues to ship finished material by using its global network to minimize disruptions to automakers such as Ford.
