Alcoa Australia has withdrawn proposed low-impact exploration drilling areas in the Perth Hills from its future plans, due to feedback from local stakeholders and the community.

The removed areas span the Armadale, Kalamunda, Mundaring, Beverley, and York local government areas, which were initially listed in the company's 2023-2027 and 2025-2029 Mining and Management Plans (MMPs).

Alcoa’s Director of Regulatory Approvals, Kane Moyle, explained that while exploration is a minimal-impact activity, the company recognizes the strong environmental and social values the region holds.

The changes will be processed via amendments to both MMPs currently before the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA) and the State Government. The decision was made to accommodate local concerns.
