According to Norilsk Nickel (Nornickel), the nickel surplus was revised to 76,000 tons in 2020, down from the previous estimated 108,000 tons. The nickel surplus will be 52,000 tons in 2021, compared to the previous 75,000 tons.

Experts thought that the year-on-year increase of 15% in demand for primary nickel after 2021 will be offset by the large-scale expansion of nickel pig iron (NPI) production capacity in Indonesia.
