Norwegian aluminum producer Norsk Hydro said that it would cut aluminum output at two of its Norwegian plants, Karmoey and Husnes, due to falling demand amid the unusual economy and energy market in Europe.

The total annual output reduction amounted to 110,000-130,000 tons of primary aluminum, including production which was shut down for maintenance and not yet been restarted.

Hydro said that the production cut will not change staffing. The underlying market trends in the longer term will remain positive as the European green transition will support growth in aluminum demand.
