Norsk Hydro ASA, a Norwegian aluminum and renewable energy company, said that its Alunorte alumina refinery in Barcarena, State of Pará, Brazil started the operation of the new electric boiler, which could reduce CO2 emissions by 100,000 tons per year.

This new electric boiler could generate around 95 tons of steam per hour, with a consumption of only 60 megawatts.

This BRL 42 million project is one of three planned electric boilers in this refinery. Another two electric boilers were expected to start operations in 2024.

Carlos Neves, director of operations in Hydro Bauxite & Alumina in Brazil, said that the new electric boiler is part of the company’s commitment to cut its carbon footprint.
