South Korea’s POSCO Holdings has launched a critical minerals research center called Australia Critical Minerals R&D Lab in Perth, Western Australia. This new research center is a significant step in POSCO's strategy to produce environmentally friendly steel and battery materials.

The lab will concentrate on developing technologies to reduce carbon emissions and lower raw material costs for steel and battery production. It will also research rare earth supply chains, explore advanced processing methods, and investigate potential investments in high-quality mining assets.

This is the first time a South Korean company has established a resource-focused research center directly in a mineral extraction region.
