RUSAL, a leading global aluminum supplier in Russia, has successfully implemented the use of inert anodes to preheat and start up aluminum reduction cells.

Compared with traditional carbon anodes, inert anode technology emits pure oxygen instead of greenhouse gases during operation, achieving zero carbon emissions in the aluminum electrolysis process and setting a new standard for environmental sustainability. It is a big step toward sustainable aluminum production.

This milestone overcomes technical challenges and enables aluminum reduction cells to get rid of the dependence of carbon anodes from the preheating and start-up phases, accelerating the stable application of inert anode technology.

RUSAL’s achievement will drive the global metallurgical industry towards a more sustainable future.
