Shagang Group, the largest private steelmaker in China, has ordered a new cold rolling mill from the French engineering company Fives. This will be the second cold rolling mill Shagang has purchased from Fives over the past four years.

The new mill, utilizing Fives' DMS 20Hi EcoMill technology, will have an annual production capacity of 80,000 tons of high-grade NGO electrical steel. It will be capable of rolling steel strips down to 0.1 mm thickness and up to 1,350 mm in width, while maintaining high surface quality and flatness.

This investment will bolster Shagang's market share in the local electric vehicle sector, which has a strong demand for high-performance electrical motors requiring high-quality electrical steel.
