It was reported that South African non-integrated chrome ore producers and exporters are trying to avoid taxes on chrome exports by discussing a way to solve the crisis faced by South African chrome ore industry.

However, the spokesperson for the South African ferrochrome industry supported the Cabinet’s proposal to impose taxes on chrome ore exported from South Africa.

Chrome SA, on behalf of David Kovarsky, Phoevos Pouroulis, and Alistair McAdam, said that South African chrome ore industry should be given special electricity dispensations instead of export taxes.

Chrome SA believed that low electricity prices can help the South African ferrochrome industry to re-obtain market share.
