South Korea initiates AD investigation into China’s heavy steel plates

According to the report, the South Korea Trade Commission, under the Ministry of Trade, Industry, and Energy, announced that it had launched an anti-dumping investigation to import heavy steel plates from China, which are mostly used in shipbuilding.

The Commission will close the case or continue to a full-scale investigation after a three-month preliminary review and make a decision within three months on whether they would impose anti-dumping duties on Chinese suppliers.

The HS codes for the products involved are 7208.51.1000, 7208.51.9000, 7208.52.1000, 7208.52.9000, 7225.40.9010, 7225.40.9091 and 7225.40.9099.

Based on data from the South Korea Iron and Steel Association, imports of China’s heavy steel to Korea increased 12% to 688,000 tons in the first half of 2024. In 2023, imports hiked 73% on-year to 1.1 million tons.
