South32’s Worsley alumina mining project obtains federal government approval

South32, an Australian mining and metals company, announced that it has obtained federal government approval to prolong the operational lifespan of its Worsley alumina mine development project in Western Australia.

The Worsley mining project will ensure a steady bauxite supply for the Worsley alumina facility, maintaining its production. The bauxite mining areas adjacent to South32's current Worsley operations are anticipated to begin in the fourth quarter of the 2024-2025 fiscal year.

Additionally, South32 said that it also planned the development of new bauxite mining areas, expected to support production until at least the fiscal year 2036.
