According to statistics, Taiwan’s 300 series hot-rolled stainless steel coil imports surged by 55% month on month in January this year, hitting the second-highest monthly imports since last year. The import price also kept stable at the level as last December.

During the period, imports from Indonesia accounted for as high as 91.5% of the total import volume, with around 46,100 tons. The imports from China were 4,300 tons only, but the import price was lower than Indonesia’s.

In the whole year of 2022, Taiwan imported a total of approximately 470,000 tons of 300 series hot-rolled stainless steel coils, dropping by 27.2% year on year. The import average price surged by around NT$14,400/ton, mainly driven by soaring nickel prices.
