Turkey’s billet and bloom imports rise in 2021

According to the Turkish Statistical Institute (TUIK), Turkey imported around 2.8 million tons of billet and bloom in 2021, up by 96.3% compared to the previous year. The import value during the period rose greatly by 185% year on year to nearly US$1.8 billion.

Among them, the top three import sources were Russia (around 1.57 million tons, a year-on-year increase of 70.3%), Algeria (around 434,700 tons), and Ukraine (around 350,100 tons).

In December 2021 alone, Turkey's billet and bloom imports totaled approximately 216,300 tons, up by 6.5% month on month and by 164% year on year. The import value was nearly US$150 million, a month-on-month hike of 9% and a year-on-year surge of 262%.
